The historical port city of Southampton is an important rail centre on the South Coast. The London & South Western Railway (LSWR) arrived in 1840, linking the city to London.
Today the majority of passenger services are operated by South West Trains. These include frequent trains to London Waterloo, Bournemouth and Portsmouth. Other operators are CrossCountry (providing services to Birmingham, Manchester Piccadilly and Newcastle), First Great Western (to Bristol Temple Meads and Cardiff Central) and Southern, which links Southampton to Brighton and also London Victoria.
The simulation is based on the current track layout and includes a full 24 hour weekday timetable for September 2000, with 423 trains. The mixture of passenger and freight trains makes it interesting and quite busy at times. A thoroughly enjoyable simulation!
Southampton is one of our Modern Series simulations.
