Doncaster is a major junction with main line services on the ECML between London and Scotland and on the Cross Country route, as well as other services on the diverging routes to Leeds, Hull, Scunthorpe and Sheffield. There are also many sidings and additional freight routes in the controlled area, so there is a rich mixture of traffic to be handled.
